ASA & Print Modes

With MakerBot Print 4.4, we now support ASA. MakerBot ASA is a weather-resistant alternative to ABS, used widely for functional prototypes and end-use parts in demanding outdoor environments. Supported print modes include Balanced and Solid print modes.

This printer came with firmware that was so old (1.3.1) the MakerBot Print acted like there was no printer there (FYI I could see it in my desktop system setting so it was not a wiring issue). In order to update the firmware on the printer so that you can print with it, you need to be able to have it recognized by the software on the desktop. MakerBot Print 4.1.2. Release 5.7.2019. Toolpath bug fix for incorrect Z height printing direction when 'Support Under Bridges' is turned on; MakerBot Print 4.1.1. Release 5.1.2019. Fixed UI in custom settings for print modes; MakerBot Print 4.1. Release 4.30.2019. New tapered PVA support structures for Method printers which will.

PETG Print Modes

Now available is the most optimal PETG solid print mode, which allows our users to capitalize on the high strength and durable characteristics of the material. Solid print mode will sacrifice print speed for a completely solid part that can be used for strength applications.

In addition, we made some changes to how PETG is printed in Balanced mode to reduce stringing.

Single Extrusion Printing

Single extrusion has been a highly requested feature that we have been testing for the past few months. We have optimized settings to provide the fastest print time possible with easily removable (breakaway) supports. We have also incorporated our taper-out support algorithm introduced in Print 4.1 for a more stable support structure.

Thin Walled ABS Quality Improvement

Significant improvements have been made to METHOD X thin walled prints. This improvement has been applied across the board for all ABS prints on METHOD X.

Here are some links to some past versions of MakerBot Desktop. We recommend using the latest releases when possible but if you are having issues with the latest release, rolling back to a previous version can be a good workaround.
